STOPP if you need to start again

Here's my take on the process:

  1. Stop: When you notice you’re struggling and want to find a better way, stop and pause.

  2. Take a breath: Connect with your breathing to slow down and balance your bodymind.

  3. Observe: Become aware of your thoughts, feelings and body sensations. Be mindful.

  4. Pull back: Get more perspective. Say to yourself the helpful, wise and kind words you’d share with a friend if they were struggling with the same situation as you.

  5. Practise what works: Take pragmatic action that aligns with your values.

'The pessimist complains about the wind;
the optimist expects it to change;
the realist adjusts the sails.'
William Arthur Ward
